Weight Loss Treatments

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once weekly injection that helps lower blood glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes. Mounjaro has also been shown in clinical trials to help with weight loss when used in combination with diet and exercise. It is not FDA approved as a weight loss drug. The starting dosage of Mounjaro® is 2.5 mg and titrated monthly, as tolerated, with a maximum dose of 15 mg. Tirzepatide with added glycine is also available. Glycine is found to contribute to decreased hunger and thoughts of food.

Zepbound (tirzepatide) is a once weekly injection that may help adults with obesity, or with excess weight (overweight) who also have weight-related medical problems, lose weight and keep it off.

Ozempic® (semaglutide) is a once weekly injection that, along with diet and exercise, is proven to improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. Ozempic has also been shown to help with weight loss. Watch a video on how to use this injecion at home here.

Wegovy® (semaglutide) is a once weekly injection that may help adults and children over 12 years old with excess weight or obesity. Wegovy® should be used with a reduced-calorie meal plan and increased physical activity.

Rybelsus is FDA-approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is not formally approved as a chronic weight management aid. However, it has been shown to help with weight loss in patients in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Contrave is an FDA-approved weight-loss medication for people who are overweight with at least one serious medical condition including diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. or those struggling with obesity. It is uniquely designed to reduce hunger and control cravings, so you can lose weight and keep it off when combined with diet and exercise.

Liraglutide is an injection that decreases your appetite and helps promote or maintain weight loss.

Qsymia is a once-daily pill that reduces appetite giving you all-day hunger control while also helping curb cravings.

Orlistat is a medication taken by mouth that can help you lose weight or maintain weight loss by decreasing the amount of fat that your body absorbs from the food you eat.

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonist. This treatment:

• Delays how quickly the stomach digests food, leading to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction with smaller meal sizes
• Lowers blood sugar, in part by reducing the production of glucose in the liver
• Decreases inflammation throughout the body, which leads to adiponectin release and fat lipolysis
